Turning a design into an ornament
- Stitch it on 14-count Aida, or on 16 or 18 count for a smaller ornament.
- Trim the fabric, leaving a margin of about half an inch around the design.
- Glue or stitch it onto a piece of felt and trim the felt to shape.
- Add a ribbon loop at the top. Plastic canvas also works and keeps its shape without a backing.
Questions
Are these Christmas patterns free?
Yes. Every pattern downloads as a PDF with no sign-up and no watermark. The site is paid for by ads.
Which fabric should I use for Christmas ornaments?
14-count Aida is the usual choice: the stitches are easy to count and a 30-stitch design comes out a little over 2 inches wide. Use 16 or 18 count for a smaller ornament.
Can I sell ornaments I stitch from these patterns?
You may sell a few finished pieces you stitched yourself. Please do not share or sell the chart files. See the terms.
Can I make a pattern from my own Christmas photo?
Yes. The free pattern maker turns any photo, like your pet in a Santa hat or your house in the snow, into a chart with DMC colors.
