Canvas sizes in drills
Standard diamond painting drills are 2.5 mm wide, so every centimeter of canvas holds 4 drills. Use this table to pick the width in the maker for the canvas you want.
| Canvas | Drills (width × height) | Total drills |
|---|---|---|
| 20 × 30 cm | 80 × 120 | 9,600 |
| 30 × 40 cm | 120 × 160 | 19,200 |
| 40 × 50 cm | 160 × 200 | 32,000 |
| 50 × 65 cm | 200 × 260 | 52,000 |
| 60 × 80 cm | 240 × 320 | 76,800 |
Square or round drills?
Both use the same DMC color numbers, so the chart works for either. Square drills sit edge to edge and give a solid, pixel-sharp picture; they suit photos and portraits. Round drills are easier to place and sparkle more, but leave small gaps between them.
How many drills to buy
The color key counts every drill in the pattern and adds 10 % extra, because a few always roll away or come out misshapen. Drills are usually sold in bags of 200 or by weight, so round up for each color.
Questions
Can I get my diamond painting printed on canvas?
This tool gives you the chart and drill list as a PDF. To stitch it as a real kit you need the design printed on an adhesive canvas, which print shops and custom kit makers offer from an image file.
How many colors should a diamond painting have?
Photos usually look good with 25 to 40 colors. Simple designs and cartoons need fewer. More colors means more bags of drills to buy.
Does my photo get uploaded?
No. The pattern is made in your browser and your picture stays on your device.
