How DMC numbers work
DMC names its six-strand floss by number. Besides White (Blanc), Ecru and Snow White (B5200), this chart covers the newer shades numbered 1 to 35 (often written with a leading zero) and the classic range from 150 to 3866.
Numbers are not in color order: 310 is black, 321 is a classic red and 3865 is a winter white. Sorting by color helps you find shades for a gradient, and the closest-match list helps you swap a color you don't have.
Using these colors in a pattern
Every pattern made with our cross stitch pattern maker and every free pattern on this site uses these DMC numbers in its color key, so you can take the list straight to the store.
A note about screen colors
Screens show colors differently, and thread looks different in natural light. Use this chart to plan, then check against real skeins or a printed DMC color card before you buy large amounts. Color values come from craft-color-codes by MakeBead (CC BY 4.0). DMC is a trademark of its owner; this site is not affiliated with DMC.
