About Picture to Pattern
A free, private pattern maker for people who stitch.
Picture to Pattern is a free pattern maker for cross stitch, diamond painting and fuse beads. It is a small independent project run from Spain by a photographer and designer who spends a lot of time turning pictures into things you can hold.
Most pattern makers either ask you to upload your photos or hide the PDF behind a paywall. This one does neither. The whole conversion runs inside your browser, so your pictures stay on your device, and every chart can be downloaded for free.
How the patterns are made
The maker shrinks your picture to the number of stitches you choose, groups similar colors, and matches each group to the closest real thread or bead color using the CIEDE2000 color difference formula, the same measure used in the textile and print industries. It then removes stray single stitches and counts how much thread or how many beads you need.
The free patterns in the library are original designs drawn for this site. They are checked stitch by stitch before they are published.
